General Manager Mark Syrjala attended Michigan State University for hotel and restaurant management and has been in the industry for 38 years. His first restaurant job was as a busser at Red Lobster, and he worked his way through school while making his way up the ranks. After college, Mark worked as a server and bartender, then manager, at the Chuck Muer family restaurants.
Mark has been with NoVI Chophouse since 2009, beginning as a server and bartender. He became assistant general manager in 2017 and has been at the helm as general manager since 2018.
Mark believes passionately in impeccable customer service and in going the extra mile to achieve 100% guest satisfaction. He places a high priority on staff training, make sure that each member of the team is fully versed in the restaurant’s extensive food and beverage menus. His leadership philosophy is: “Never stop learning. Challenge yourself to be better every day. The power of a positive attitude can earn extraordinary results.”
Under Mark’s direction, the NoVI Chophouse has earned multiple awards, including Detroit Metro Times’Best Steakhouse (suburbs), Best in Detroit’s Best Chophouse, Open Table’s Diner’s Choice Award, and the prestigious Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
